A Northern Song Chan master of Ciyun cloister at Lin'an (modern Hangzhou), a dharma-heir of Huanglong Zuxin in the Linji/Huanglong branch, thirteenth generation below Nanyue. He is remembered chiefly for a set of four 'hanging phrases' (垂語四則) posed as public tests to his assembly, on precise response, answering north when asked south, unrestricted function, and cold-ash stillness.
