A Northern Song Chan master of Ciyun cloister in Tanzhou (modern Changsha, Hunan), dharma-heir of Yunju Yuanyou in the Linji/Huanglong branch. His recorded sermon takes up Xuansha Shibei's famous saying that 'the whole great earth is one bright pearl', which he dismissed as 'chewing food to feed an infant' — spoon-feeding that robs the student of his own seeing.
