Dahong En 大洪報恩

School: Caodong | 1058–1111 | Teacher: Touzi Yiqing

隨州大洪山報恩禪師 (1058–1111), lay name 劉欽憲, of Liyang in Wei; born into a family of established Confucian scholars. He passed the 方略 examination at the top of the list before he was capped, then wearied of official life and petitioned the throne to be released from office to become a monk. He went to Touzi Yiqing and grasped the essence of mind within a short time — Yiqing told him 「汝再來人也,宜自護持」(you are one who has come again; guard this well). Chancellor Han Zhen invited him to open the dharma. A Caodong master and dharma-brother of Furong Daokai. He debated the essentials of the three teachings with the chancellor Zhang Shangying (無盡居士), arguing that neither the Indian heterodox schools nor Confucianism and Daoism escape the four views.
