Linji master of Langpan in YUNNAN — one of the very few Chan seats that far southwest. Dharma heir of Poshan Haiming. The 五燈全書 preserves his teaching: 'Shitou said, a needle cannot pierce it. Yaoshan said, flowers grow on stone. Here at Langpan it is not so — it is like standing in a thicket of a hundred flowers: whose nose has no fragrance in it?' His heir Banshui Yuan of Sanfeng carried the line on.
