Danyuan Yingzhen was a Tang Chan master of Mt. Danyuan in Jizhou, a dharma-heir of the National Teacher Nanyang Huizhong, whom he served as attendant. He is chiefly remembered through his encounters with the young Yangshan Huiji, to whom tradition says he transmitted the set of circular figures inherited from Huizhong — the seed of the Guiyang school's distinctive symbolism.
