Southern Song Linji-Yangqi monk, lay surname Zhao, of Langzhong's Yushan. At ten, gravely ill, his parents vowed him to the monastic life on his recovery. Entered the order under Zongyi at Chengdu's Dacisi Baosheng cloister, ordained in Yuanyou 3 (1088). Studied and lectured for years, then went south; first called on Yong'an En on the 'three blows of Linji' koan, then studied under various teachers without full satisfaction; hearing of Wuzu Fayan's sharpness, sought him out and attained realization under his relentless questioning. Founded Nantang at Dasui shan in Pengzhou (hence 'Nantang Yuanjing/Daoxing'). Later abbot of Chengdu Zhaojue, Nengren, and Dasui monasteries. Author of the Nantang Xing Heshang Yuyao.
