Datong Ji was a Tang Chan master of Datong in Lizhou (modern Hunan), recorded among the dharma-heirs of Shitou Xiqian. His surviving anecdotes are almost entirely wordless contests of gesture — when Mihu arrived with his assembly, Ji dragged his meditation seat around, sat facing the wall, and the two men circled and overturned seats at each other without a syllable — and he also traded barbs with the famous Layman Pang.
