Dongyang Dehui (fl. 1329-1336), also called Baizhang Dehui, was a Yuan-dynasty Linji/Yangqi monk of uncertain birthplace and dates. He took charge of Baizhang monastery in 1329 and rebuilt its dharma hall in 1330. In 1335 he was commanded by imperial edict to re-edit the Baizhang monastic code; the resulting 勅修百丈清規 was promulgated to every monastery in the empire the following year and became the definitive rule of Chan monastic life, transmitted to Japan and Korea. He is the compiler behind the code's famous restatement of Baizhang's maxim: 'A day without work is a day without food.'
