Of the Juyun branch. He followed Chuiwan Guangzhen and then Tiebi Huiji before receiving the robe and whisk from Tiemei Huili ('Three Slaps') on the latter's deathbed in 1650. At his own enthronement he offered incense to 'my late master, the venerable Tiemei of the Three Slaps, to repay the debt of the dharma-milk'.
