School: Yunmen | 1005–1081 | Teacher: Beichan Zhixian

From Zhangzhou, lay surname Lin, born 1005. Ordained at Chongfu in his home prefecture, he travelled widely — Fushan Fayuan, the hermit of Bajiao, Yuantong — and stayed longest with Beichan Zhixian of Tanzhou, under whom he awakened. Late in life he spent three years in the deep ravines of the Western Hills, then took the invitation to Fachang: a few old rooms in Fenning, Hongzhou, where he farmed with hoe and fire and was content. He died in 1081, aged seventy-seven.
