Fadu Puci 筏渡普慈

School: Linji | 1264–1351 | Teacher: Taiyuan Liangyi 太原良益 | Students: Yiyan Xian

Of Fenzhou in Shanxi; born 1264, died 1351/52 at the age of 88. His dharma name is 普慈 — the batch had only the bare sobriquet plus a single character. The Xudeng zhengtong files him as 'Fadu Puci of Fenzhou, heir of Yi of Taiyuan' — that is Kukou Liangyi, the batch's 苦口益. A separate index, however, lists a 'Wufeng Yuanshu Puci' as an heir of Yuansou Xingduan. He is remembered in Qing Sichuan: Qingzhong Tiebi's record says a monk 'travelled to Fenzhou and called on Fadu, who recognised him at once as a vessel'.
