Fahua Quanju was a Northern Song Linji master, a dharma-heir of Fenyang Shanzhao and thus a dharma-brother of Shishuang Chuyuan and Dayu Shouzhi. Known as 'Ju the Wayfarer', he was famously abrasive: asked to say a phrase that does not tread the road, he slapped his sitting-cloth down once and snapped, 'Fabricating abbots — thick as hemp, thick as millet!' — then shook out his sleeves and walked out.
