Fojian Huiqin (1059-1117) was a Northern Song Linji/Yangqi master of Taiping in Shuzhou, surnamed Wang, a dharma-heir of Wuzu Fayan. With Yuanwu Keqin and Foyan Qingyuan he made up the 'Three Buddhas' of Fayan's assembly, the trio through whom the Yangqi branch came to dominate later Chan. He was awarded the purple robe and an honorific title at the petition of Deng Xunwu. He used the 'Qiannü's departed soul' story as a teaching device to break students' doubt, and left the pointed couplet: 'Not finding the mind is what settles the mind — but how is awakening any deeper than not having awakened?'
