Fushi Tongxian 浮石通賢

A son of the Zhao clan, his family from Hulin (Hangzhou) and settled at Danghu. His father was old and childless and prayed for a son; the family declined after his birth. He began school at six under the name Chongguang, but the household grew poor and by seven he was working for a living. At thirteen he gave up meat; at nineteen, when his parents moved to marry him off, he said 'if I do not go now, I shall never get free,' and fled to Putuo, where he was tonsured under Shaozong. He received the novice precepts from the great Yunqi Zhuhong. He studied for years at Jinsu under MIYUN YUANWU, followed him to Fujian, later sealed himself in retreat at Wuyuan, and became Miyun's heir the following year. He was abbot of Qinglian in Zhejiang and of BAO'EN monastery at Wujiang in Suzhou. He died in 1667, aged 75.
