Guaishi Qi ('Qi of the Strange Rock') was a Song/Yuan Chan master of Tiantong monastery in Mingzhou (modern Ningbo), a dharma-heir of Yunfeng Miaogao of Jingshan in the Linji/Yangqi line. His recorded teaching insists on first-hand practice over description: 'What cure is there in talking about drinking and talking about eating? You must drink the water yourself and eat the rice yourself — only then is there any real effect.'
