Song Chan master of Guifeng in Xinzhou, styled Hui'an, a native of Jianning; a dharma heir of Wuju Daoxing in the Yangqi branch of Linji. His sermons work a running joke on 'vexation': Bodhidharma was vexed nine years, Lotus Peak's hermit was too vexed to settle, Nanyue Si too vexed to come down the mountain, and Linji and Deshan wore out their own dregs. His heir Meng'an Yuancong, acclaimed his foremost student, went on to head Xuefeng and then Jingshan in 1197.
