Of the Lin (林) family of Yueqing in Wenzhou; a dharma heir of Hengchuan Rugong, of the Songyuan branch of Yangqi Linji. He studied under Jianweng Jing of Xuedou in Mingzhou, Shilin Gong of Nanping and Jue'an Zhen of Chengtian. He was abbot of Baoning at Jinling (Nanjing) under the Yuan. His heirs included Liao'an Qingyu, Zhongmou Liangyou and the Japanese monks Jikusen Bonsen (竺仙梵僊) and Sekishitsu Zenkyu (石室善玖); Jikusen carried his line to Japan, where the Kurin (古林) school became one of the twenty-four schools of Japanese Zen.
