Of the Yang clan of Xingan, Linjiang. Born on the 20th of the 12th month of 1246 (early 1247). A son of a Pure Land household, he sang hymns with his mother as soon as he could speak; he entered Xiangshi cloister at Jianxing monastery at seven and was tonsured at nineteen under a Xianchun edict. He studied first with the monk Zhining, then went to XUEYAN ZUQIN and got the dharma from him, holding the first seat in the Assembled Clouds hall. In 1280 he attended Xueyan to the imperial audience and was given a robe. He held Muping ten years and Huili nineteen; in 1296 he was granted the title Great Chan Master Puzhao, with a gold-bordered kasaya, and Goryeo sent him robes, a gold-lettered sutra and jade. Monks came from Yunnan in the far west to Liao in the east; when the gruel ran short he would pawn things rather than stop teaching. In 1309 the Bureau of Buddhist Affairs installed him at Jianfu in Rao. He died sitting, having bathed, on the 16th of the 6th month of 1312, aged 67, with 48 years in robes.
