Of the Hu clan of Long'an in western Shu. He left home at nineteen and was fully ordained at twenty-two, then walked the Jiangnan circuit, calling at the gates of the great masters and finding an entry at each. In 1667 he visited Shaolin, passed Fengxue, and met Yun'e Xi; the connection took, and he stayed close to him for six years, receiving the seal. In 1672 he entered Qin and opened the dharma at Xingfu Chan monastery in Jingyang, then moved to Guangjiao, Qingfu, Dunhuang and Jinsu. In 1684 he took Xingshan, and in 1688 Fengxue — his master's seat. He left a discourse record and the Qiaokong yixiang, twelve fascicles each.
