Teacher of Linji and one of the most important Tang Chan masters. Born in Fuzhou, Fujian. Teaching centered on 'one mind' (一心): all beings possess this one mind which is the Buddha. His teachings recorded by lay student Pei Xiu in the Chuanxin Fayao (傳心法要) and Wanling Lu (宛陵錄). Named thirteen successors.
