Huiji Yuanxi 晦機元熙

School: Linji | 1238–1319 | Teacher: Wuchu Daguan | Students: Xiaoyin Daxin, Dongyang Dehui, Tianlun Zhongfang

Of the Tang clan of Yuzhang (Nanchang); born 1238. He was tonsured by Ming of Mingjue cloister at Xishan. Hearing that Wuchu Daguan was teaching at Yuji he went and attached himself to him, staying at his side; afterwards he called on Dongsou Ying at Nanping, who made him recorder. In 1296 he came out at Baizhang and stayed twelve years; in the Zhida era he moved to Jingci for seven, then to Jingshan as its 46th abbot, and in old age to Yangshan. He bore the title Chan Master Fozhi. He died on the 17th of the intercalary 8th month of 1319, aged 82, and was interred at Xiyin at Jingci. His heirs included Xiaoyin Daxin, Meiwu Nianchang and Shishi Zuying.
