Jiesan Hong of Hongguang monastery in the capital, a native of Jiading in Suzhou surnamed Ge, and a dharma-heir of Dabo Xingqian of Panshan in the Linji-Yangqi line descending through Wanru Tongwei from Miyun Yuanwu. Tonsured at seventeen, he was first set on the Zhaozhou 'wu' huatou by Feiyin Tongrong, trained intensively under Xingqian from 1666, and spent six years in sealed retreat at Qianmu Garden; five heirs are recorded under him.
