Qing Chan master of Xingshan at Jiangshan (Zhongshan) in Jinling, styled Jie'an, personal name Chen; a native of Xiangtan, surname Li. Raised a Confucian, he was awakened to the illusoriness of worldly toil by the dynastic collapse of 1644-45, was tonsured by Buyun of Taohua shan, travelled to many teachers, and finally received transmission certification as an in-room true son of Hongjue (Muchen Daomin), after which he came forth at Xingshan in Jinling.
