Northern Song Chan master of Jingtu at Miyan in Raozhou, a dharma heir of Huilin Yuanzhao Zongben in the Yunmen school. His one preserved address runs: 'The Way has no motion or stillness; dharmas follow conditions. Wherever you stand is real, and you are host wherever you turn — in heaven and earth it covers and bears, in sun and moon it shines, between ruler and minister it reforms customs, in the Buddhist house it sets compassion in motion. And on a patch-robed monk's part, what then?' After a pause: 'Words will not reach it — better discuss it under the trees.'
