東京淨因蹣菴繼成禪師, of Yichun in Yuanzhou, lay surname 劉; 14th generation below Nanyue and dharma heir of Zhihai Daoping. Raising his staff he would ask the Śūraṅgama's question — 「清淨本然，云何忽生山河大地？」— then answer by throwing the staff down and calling to the assembly: 「虛空翻筋斗，向新羅國裏去也」, warning them not to take leaves for gold to stop a child's crying, nor notch the boat to find the sword. Another 上堂: 「茫茫盡是覓佛漢，舉世難尋閑道人。棒喝交馳成藥忌，了忘藥忌未天真。」
