開封淨因佛日惟嶽禪師, of Changxi in Fuzhou, lay surname 陳. Ordained at seven at Xilin, he studied under Yuanzhao Zongben and had an insight while standing in attendance as the story of the kalpa-ending fire was raised. A Yunmen-line master, he emerged as abbot of Chengtian in Changzhou, moved to Huayan in the Eastern Capital, and then to Jingyin. On the day he opened the hall, Emperor Zhezong sent a palace envoy to offer incense; he took the seat and said that this dharma gate lies neither in trap nor snare and has nothing to do with question and answer — 「直饒盡十方剎土抹為微塵,一一微塵盡為衲僧…到者裏一點用不著」. His heir Tichun of Gushan carried the line on.
