潤州金山曇穎達觀禪師 (989–1060), lay surname 丘 of Qiantang. He first called on Dayang Jingxuan (元), asking what matter Dongshan's 偏正君臣 was meant to clarify — 「父母未生時事」came the answer; asked how to realise it, 「夜半正明，天曉不露」. Baffled, he went to Guyin Yuncong, who said Dayang was not wrong, only tight-lipped, and answered the same questions with 「糞墼子」and 「牡丹花下睡猫兒」, leaving him more astonished still — and it was from Yuncong that he finally took transmission. A Linji master, abbot of Jinshan in Runzhou, with a wide circle of monastic and lay heirs. Asked about the vajra eye he paused and said simply 「瞎」(blind).
