Linji master and the Qing restorer of Lingyin monastery at Hangzhou. His disciple Jiexian's account of conduct opens: 'the master's name was Hongli, his style Jude; he was born of the Zhang family of Kuaiji — a great clan of Yuezhou, descended from Shu, truly the posterity of Master Ziyan.' He was tonsured at the Baohua hermitage on Putuo by Zhongya, and became the dharma heir of Hanyue Fazang. He rebuilt Lingyin — the greatest of the five mountains of Zhejiang — and Wu Weiye's stupa inscription for him is titled 'for the great venerable Jude who rebuilt Lingyin'. He died on the nineteenth day of the tenth month of 1667, aged sixty-eight.
