Lanfang Zhida 嬾放智大

School: Caodong | Students: Wenmu Nian

A Ming jinshi who refused to serve the Qing and took the robe instead. He was an old acquaintance of Kong Youde, the Qing Prince Dingnan, who — the Xinxu gaoseng zhuan says — thought highly of his integrity and issued the order for a monastery to be built for him on Mount Qi above Hengyang. That was Renrui monastery, which he founded and where he lived out his life; it held over a thousand mu of temple land. He was a Caodong master. His recorded sayings survive only as quotations in others' collections. His heir was Wenmu Nian, who received the dharma from him in 1658.
