Lanshi Ling 懶石聆

School: Linji | 1616–1694 | Teacher: Zhangxue Tongzui

Lay surname Zhang, of Zhongzhou in Chongqing. A dream moved him to seek a master at twelve, but he was not tonsured until twenty. He took the precepts under Xiangya and worked on 'the ten thousand dharmas return to one - what does the one return to?'; one day body, mind and world fell away and everything was vast and empty. He then went to Poshan Haiming at Shuanggui, and afterwards followed Zhangxue Tongzui to Hanzhong, opening the dharma at Jingming; at his master's first discourse his breast opened, and he received the seal and succeeded him in the seat. He held Jingming and Baolin in Hanzhong and Shangshan temple in Yunnan fu. He died in 1694, aged 79. His heir was Feizhi Ming of Jingci in Jiangjin.
