Of the Ke clan of Putian, born 1612. As a child the sight of hills and water made him want to leave the world; at eighteen he took the five precepts under Qiaoyun and devoted himself to nianfo, and at twenty-seven was tonsured at Guohuan monastery. Reading the Xuefeng record — Touzi pointing at a slab of rock and saying 'all the buddhas of the three times are in there' — he chewed on it half a year and got nowhere; then Baohua Ren at Cao shan raised his staff, touched him with it, and something opened. He went to Baichi Xingyuan of Jinsu at Mount Bai in Jianzhou, fitted him like needle to mustard-seed, and received the seal. He held Gushan at Xinghua, Jiuzuo Xingguo, Bao'en, Longhua Wanshou, Tongtian at Lushan, and Ximing on Mount Shi. He was still alive in 1691, aged eighty; his death year is not recorded.
