Of the Wang (王) family of Gaoliang in Kuizhou (Liangshan, Sichuan); a dharma heir of Poshan Haiming (1597-1666). His recorded sayings in three fascicles survive. His own heir Miyin Zhenchuan burns the transmission incense for him at every hall-opening as 'the thirty-second generation of orthodox Linji' — which fixes Lingyin's place in the line exactly, since Poshan is the thirty-first.
