Meixi Fudu 梅溪福度

School: Linji | 1637–1701 | Teacher: Lingyin Yinwen

From Yongchuan in western Shu (surname Zhang), born on the 30th of the 1st month of 1637; his father carried him into Guizhou. Tonsured at sixteen under Zhiru of Dongshan, he took the ten precepts at twenty and at twenty-one met Lingyin at Diancheng. In the winter of 1661, serving as precentor at Lingyin's retreat at Guanyin monastery in Doubao, he received the dharma on the Buddha's enlightenment day. He taught across Yunnan and Guizhou — Qingyuan, Huaguang, Yuhuang, Dengjue, Yuange, Yuantong — and went up to Tiantong to sweep Miyun's stupa. He died in the 1st month of 1701, aged 63, and his bones were brought back to Dongshan.
