Of Wuyi in Jinhua, surname Xu; zi Miaoyun. His mother died when he was nine and he was tonsured at Huayan by the vinaya master Zihua, who gave him the name Shoufeng. He took the precepts under Jude at Lingyin. Sent out one day to haul firewood, he lost his way, wandered up to Beigao peak, sat down, and at nightfall looked up to find the moon bright and the whole landscape transparent and without obstruction. He then called on Zuyin, Feiyin, Ruo'an, Fushi, Yulin and Muyun in turn. In the spring of 1670 he went to Jie'an Wujin at Jinming, and in 1672 received transmission from him. He held Dabei in Linqing (Shandong) and Jingde at the Three Pagodas in Jiaxing.
