Mingjue Cong 明覺性聰

School: Linji | 1611–1667 | Teacher: Baichi Xingyuan

Xingcong, styled Hanpu (1611–1667), a native of Shaowu in Fujian surnamed Lian, ordained at fifteen and a dharma-heir of Baichi Xingyuan of Taiping monastery in Hangzhou. He held seats from Hangzhou to Beijing, and in 1657 the Shunzhi emperor summoned him to the Wanshan Hall retreat and granted him the title Chan Master Mingjue — he is the monk who first drew that emperor to Chan.
