From Hebei. Taught at the South Hall (Nanyuan) of Baoying Monastery in Ruzhou with an extremely strict, confrontational style. Critical link in the Linji lineage: only through his line (via Fengxue Yanzhao) did Linji's transmission survive to modern times.
