Niutou Huizhong 牛頭山慧忠

School: Niutou | 683–769 | Teacher: Oxhead Zhiwei

Huizhong of Mount Niutou (683–769), sixth patriarch of the Oxhead school, surnamed Wang of Jiangning. He trained at Zhuangyan monastery from the age of twenty-three and served Zhiwei, inheriting his dharma; he lived with minimal possessions, later presided at Yanzuo monastery, and left some thirty-odd successors, the most notable being Weize of Foku cliff on Mount Tiantai.
