Qibai Defu 其白德富

School: Linji | 1628–1690 | Teacher: Zhangxue Tongzui

Of Meishan in southern Sichuan, Gong clan; father Gong Fu, mother of the Liu clan. As a boy he heard a lecture on the Diamond Sutra and, hearing how the Buddha left the palace for the snow mountains, resolved to leave home; his mother refused and he went two days without drinking until his father relented. Tonsured by Cihang, ordained under the Vinaya master Daru. He travelled, and got the great dharma from Zhangxue Tongzui at Zhaojue in Chengdu. He then founded Yuquan monastery at Pitong on Panlong mountain, where the assembly grew large. Died 1690 in the summer heat, the body reportedly unaltered; buried under a stupa on the south slope of Pan mountain.
