Tang-dynasty Caodong master (d. 904), a native of Yuhang surnamed Chen, and a direct dharma heir of the school's co-founder Dongshan Liangjie. Caught at Nanzheng in the Huang Chao rebellion, he was picked out by a court official who looked at him a long while and said 'this is a Dharma King, not merely a dragon or elephant.' He taught from Handong to Qinglin; after his death in 904 his followers collected three hundred of his sayings as the Xuanji shihui ji. Five dharma heirs are recorded.
