A man of Yingshan in Shunqing prefecture, northern Sichuan, of the Luo clan — a family of scholars in which 'every gate had passed the examinations.' He was born imposing in appearance and unusual in frame. At eight he lost his father and kept the fast with his mother; that same evening a yellow dragon dozens of yards long was seen soaring over his head to the clouds, and when he pointed his brother said: 'A dragon.' He became the chief dharma heir of CHUIWAN GUANGZHEN, and on Chuiwan's death in 1639 SUCCEEDED HIM AS ABBOT of Juyun monastery — the man through whom the Sichuan Juyun line continues. He was later abbot of Dizang, Yinweng, QINGZHONG, Yunyan, Baosheng and Zhiping. He died in 1668, aged 66.
