Styled Sanyi, called Yu'an, of the Ding clan of Wulin in Qiantang, born 1599. He set his mind on leaving the world at fourteen and took the five precepts from Zhuhong at Yunqi; at sixteen a reading of Zhenjing's record opened something; he entered Zhenji as a postulant at twenty and was shaved at twenty-three. He went to Zhanran Yuancheng at Xiansheng, and Yuancheng entrusted him with the Caodong seal. Ill for years and worn to the bone, he called himself 'the White-Bones Wayfarer.' He held Longmen from 1635, then Huashan, took Xiansheng in 1643, Fanshou in 1650, Zhuming in 1656. He died on the eleventh of the tenth month, 1665, aged sixty-seven; thirty men inherited his dharma, of whom Zhe'an Jingfan is one.
