From Xi'an in Guizhou, lay surname Zhang. Tonsured at seventeen at Fahai monastery, he met Shanquan Dawei two years later, who set him on 'the ten thousand dharmas return to one'. He took full precepts on Mount Yunjiu, worked with Yuefeng on Tiantai, and returned to Shanquan at Songkui to be sealed. After his master's death he travelled ten years. His dharma-uncle Guyuan put him in at Tianlong; he moved to Songkui and back to Tianlong. Finding that the lamp records held nothing from Guizhou, he collected the recorded sayings of the whole province and compiled the Qiannan huideng lu.
