A hunter from Fuzhou (Jiangxi) who became one of Mazu Daoyi's dharma heirs, 南嶽下二世. Chasing a deer past Mazu's hut he was asked how many he could shoot with one arrow; when Mazu said he shot a whole herd with one arrow and then asked why he did not shoot himself, Huizang threw down his bow and ordained. He later settled on Shigong mountain and habitually met students by drawing his bow at them.
