A Meizhou man of western Shu (Sichuan), of the Wang clan, and a dharma heir of YANSHI SHANKAI of Jinshan. He was abbot in turn of Bao'en, Nengren and Jiangshan Taiping-Xingguo in Jiankang, then Huqiu at Pingjiang, then Lingyin, and finally JINGSHAN — its thirty-sixth abbot. Emperor Lizong wrote out four characters for him, 'Shixi, robe-transmitting,' and titled him Chan Master Fohai. He died on the ninth day of the sixth month, 1254.
