Shui'an Shiyi (1107–1176), a native of Wuzhou surnamed Ma, ordained at sixteen. He first studied under Duanyu at Xuefeng, who probed him with the 'hiding the body leaving no trace' story; after several days he presented a verse ('The old mirror needs no polishing to shine of itself') and, pressed further, answered 'The stone tiger has swallowed the wooden lamb' — which Duanyu firmly approved. He later became abbot of Jingci in Lin'an and had four dharma heirs.
