From Jintan (surname Chen), tonsured in his twenties under Gaoyuan at Yaojiang and fully ordained under Muchen Daomin at Tiantong. He worked on the koan of Nezha dismembering himself and had an opening, and presented Daomin with fifty-three verses on the Huayan, which Daomin praised. By his own account he followed Daomin through seven monasteries and attended him for thirteen years before receiving the dharma. He then held Dajue at Qingzhou and Jinsu at Jiaxing, and died on the 24th of the 11th month of 1673, aged 54; Lüyan He was among his heirs.
