Chan master of the Tianbo monastery at the Northern Capital, a dharma heir of Tianyi Yihuai in the Yunmen line, 南嶽下十一世. His sermons are blunt about the cost of monastic upkeep: 'In winter you take no cold, in summer no heat; the clothes on your back and food in your mouth come right on time — and none of it is spontaneous or natural, it is every bit the blood and fat of other people.'
