Tianze Jineng 天則機能

School: Linji | b. 1618 | Teacher: Shanduo Zhenzai

Of Huanggang, surname Kang; zi Tianze, also styled Jingshan. Tonsured at Anguo monastery, where he studied the Mahayana and Hinayana divisions and concluded that 'the matter' does not lie in words and letters; he took the precepts at Xingyan. He called first at Tianjie in Jinling, where he was set on 'the three are not it' and had an opening, then went on to Tiantong and to Yunmen, and found his depth with Shanweng Min at Daochang, who made him head of assembly. War drove him back to Yishui in Chu, where he built a hut on Mt. Yuqi. He afterwards came to Shanduo Zhenzai and received transmission from him in the autumn of 1665. He held Yilin at Yishui. Still living in 1677, aged sixty.
