A Ming Linji monk of the Qinling mountains, and the recipient of the dharma from Jingshan Huaibao. He is a hinge, not a figure: almost nothing of him survives beyond the fact of the transmission, and he owes his place entirely to the pedigree that runs through him down to Chuiwan Guangzhen and the Juyun house of Sichuan. Chuiwan's own stele concedes that for Tieniu and his heir Yueming, unlike the ten masters above them, 'only the words of their meeting and the verse of entrustment are recorded.'
