Song–Yuan Linji master, sobriquet 皖山, from Dahu in Shuzhou of the Li family. Orphaned at seventeen, he was tonsured under 雙泉道瑛 and ordained at Kaiyuan. He tried 環菴璉, 癡絕道沖 and 長蘆南山哲 without a match, got a first opening from a punch delivered by 雙塔無明性, then went into Fujian to 孤峰德秀, who set him Zhaozhou's 「狗子無佛性」; after half a year he broke through and was eventually sealed with 「善自護持」 and made incense attendant. He followed Gufeng to Xichan and Nangshan, and after his teacher's death went to Xuefeng; he later headed Gushan in Fuzhou.
